Has a high silica content and so may help maintain bone mass for those with osteoporosis, and to help strenghten brittle nails.

May possibly be useful in a compress to help wounds and has some diuretic action.
Absorbs small amounts of gold from the soil and so may have a beneficial effect for those with rheumatoid arthritis.
